Baobáxia is a multimedia repository designed to operate in rural communities with little or no internet access. A Baobáxia network is a collection of mucúas or nodes. Each mucua is a computer connected to the community's network, where users can upload their own cultural productions in the form of audio, video, text, and images. The content of each mucua can be synchronized with other mucuas, either online or offline, through the mobile mucuas of people traveling between communities. In this way, memories spread so that each node can potentially hold the entire content of the entire network.

Baobáxia was created and developed by Rede Mocambos, a collaboration among quilombos (Afro-Brazilian communities) across Brazil. It aims to provide digital infrastructure for sharing and preserving the cultural heritage of Afro-Brazilian societies in both urban and remote territories. As such, it is also of interest to Indigenous communities for preserving and perpetuating their culture in digital format.
